Awning windows glide or swing open or shut with a hinge and handle. The nice feature of the awning window is that it can be swung open even during a light rain to allow the fresh cool air in but not the rain water. The awning window is best used as a top window over a larger stationary window below it that is used as a view window. This top positioning allows the best air flow ventilation and is very effective when installed in opposite ends of a room in order to have top air flow ventilation. This type of ventilation is even more effective and efficient than ceiling fans.
Another excellent placement and use of awning windows is for an upper floor or attic room conversion. The installation of awning windows for these room additions maximizes natural ways of lower room temperatures without using electricity from your air conditioning. The inflow of cool air or cross flow of air from open awning windows will lower the room temperature dramatically.
